Adults of all ages and backgrounds training together at SD4ALL Krav Maga in Cedar Knolls, NJ
PART I — WHO THIS IS FOR
THE STUDENT

This Is About Real Capability.

Every class builds a drilled response to what actually happens — so capability lives in your body and holds up under pressure. That's a different goal than a workout, and it changes how we train.

Avatar 1

Men 35–55

You've built a career, a family, a life. You want to know you can protect it — not because you're paranoid, because you're responsible.

Avatar 2

Women 25–50

You commute alone. You run at night. You park in garages. You've thought about what you'd do — and you didn't like your answer.

Avatar 3

Seniors 55–70

Adapted pacing, same techniques. Not chair yoga — actual self-defense built for your body, joints, and pace of life.

Avatar 4

Returning Practitioners

You trained something years ago. You miss it. We meet you where your body is now — not where it was at 22.

PART II — WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY LEARN
CURRICULUM

What You'll Actually Train For

The curriculum is built from what civilian-violence data says happens — not what looks dangerous on YouTube. Real scenarios, drilled with a partner under increasing resistance.

  • Escaping grabs, chokes, and holds — front, rear, wall, ground
  • Defending against knife and stick threats — burst, redirect, control
  • De-escalation: voice, posture, distance, exit ramp
  • Situational awareness — reading a threat before it starts
  • Scenario work: car, elevator, parking lot, home intrusion
  • Pressure testing — drills with resistance, noise, fatigue, partners who don't wait

Most students feel a real shift in confidence within 4–6 classes — the real kind, that comes from having actually practiced.

— Gonçalo Esteves, Chief Instructor

How we keep it safe

Krav Maga is a contact activity, so safe training is something we run on purpose. You build up in stages — technique first, then controlled resistance, then live pressure once you're ready. Intensity is matched to the person, partners are coached to protect each other, and an instructor watches every drill. You'll be challenged, at a pace your body can take.

Who You're Actually Training With

Gonçalo Esteves leading a Krav Maga class at SD4ALL, Cedar Knolls NJ
4th Dan Shotokai 4× Portuguese National Champion 16 years National Team Teaching Krav Maga since 1997 ~1,500 people trained Portugal · Norway · UK · US Industrial Engineer

Here's the honest version. Even as a national champion, there were people I didn't feel I could truly handle on the street — and that gap sent me looking for real self-defense. I expected something out of a movie fight club. What I found in Krav Maga was the opposite: flow, and a system for building genuine capability. I eventually stepped away from competition when it was simply my time — another path, engineering and consulting, was calling. But training people to become capable is what I keep coming back to. The room is full of working adults — finance, law, medicine, teaching, retired — drilling what the data says actually happens until it lives in the body, with real partners and real pressure.

PART IV — REAL STORIES
STUDENT STORY

"For the First Time, I Wasn't Scared"

Farah joined a few months ago — never trained before. Then one night a stranger got too close, and she stayed calm. In her own words:

"For the first time in my life, I wasn't scared. I had the tools to face a situation like this."

Common Questions

Do I need any martial arts experience?
None. Most people walking in for their first class have never trained before. We start from zero and build real, drilled responses — not belt rank, not competition prep.
What exactly is Krav Maga?
A self-defense system developed for the Israeli military, now taught to civilians worldwide. It focuses on practical situations — grabs, chokes, weapon threats, de-escalation. No sport rules. No tournaments. No sparring until you are ready.
I am not in shape. Can I still train?
Yes. We train adults of all fitness levels. You will get fitter as a side effect of training, but you do not need to be fit to start. You need to show up.
Is this right for women who have never trained?
Especially yes. About 40% of our students are women. We run women-focused Krav Maga on Fridays, and the training environment and the scenarios are built for it.
How long until I can actually defend myself?
Most students feel noticeably more aware and confident after 4–6 classes. Genuine drilled capability against the most common threats takes 3–6 months of consistent training. We tell you this up front because real training beats false confidence.
What does it cost?
Your first class is free. After that, we run month-to-month and longer-term plans. Pricing and program fit are walked through during your free first class — .
